Collective Movements and Pathways to Sustainable Societies (COMPASS)

COMPASS is a research project under the Centre for Sustainability and Society (SUSY) that studies environmental movements to understand how they affect environmental behaviour, social norms, and institutions in society.

Environmental behaviour and grassroots movements

The project is divided into two parts; The first part of the project will contribute to a better theoretical understanding of how environmental norms are created, affect behaviour related to the environment and spread in the society. The other part provides an understanding of how we can reduce our ecological footsteps by developing and scale up collective grassroots movements local and national effects.

The project is specifically divided into 6 Work Packages, each of which will be discussed and disseminated through 6 Solution Labs. Here, sub-projects and solutions will be presented to and discussed by practitioners from communities other than those involved in the research project themselves: Municipal employees, business representatives, and CSR employees, journalists and politicians.

The project is a collaboration between the University of Copenhagen, 3 ecosystems, 2 food communities, 3 networks fighting waste and 1 network that works for a sustainable transformation of society. It runs until the end of 2020 and is awarded by the Velux Foundation.
